Public Safety
The University Center (UC) is committed to providing a safe and secure environment to our students, faculty, staff and visitors.Emergency Preparedness:In addition to the University Center's Emergency plan, the BOR has launched a new emergency communications system. This new system will build on existing methods of information distribution and communication, and will greatly expend our ability to quickly and reliably communicate with students, staff, and faculty in an emergency.Inclement Weather:According to State and BOR policy, State offices cannot be closed due to inclement weather. (See BOR policy http://www.ris.sdbor.edu/policy/4-Personnel/documents/4-40.pdf.) However, the universities are given the ability to cancel or delay the start of classes due to bad weather conditions. When bad weather begins overnight, a decision to delay or cancel classes will be made by administration and an announcement will be posted on the front page of our website as well as on KELO, KDLT, and KSFY television stations and the Backyard Broadcasting and Cumulus radio stations. There may be times when the weather conditions don't justify cancellation of all classes, but may prevent certain faculty members from getting to the campus due to the location of their residence. Faculty who are unable to reach the work site should contact University Center as soon as possible so the information can be put on the University Center website. It is the responsibility of the instructor to contact their students.
