What's New at UC?

Sioux Falls - In short,
there is a lot happening
at UC and it is all directed
to making this a better
place to learn and teach.
Facilities - The work to
bring these buildings to
completion is a huge task,
but we are on target to
hold classes in the
new building beginning
Spring 2009. This will give
the opportunity for
expanded offerings and
additional programs. You
cannot get too close to the
buildings yet, but we
encourage you to drive
by and take a look.
New staffing - With our
new facilities comes new
staffing. We are adding
an advisor plus a number
of positions to ensure
that both our new class-
room building plus our
current space are
available and staffed to
meet student and faculty
needs. |
Scholarship Fundraising -
For the first time in our
history we are actively
seeking private support
for scholarship funding.
We intend to announce
our scholarship plans
during the fall semester.
The major focus is to
fund "Lifelong Learning
Scholarships" with a major
emphasis on attracting new
students with financial need.
Another focus is funding for
scholarships from under-
represented populations in
our community with an initial
emphasis on the growing
Hispanic/Latino community.
The "Daytime Class" Issue -
I hope you read about this in
the Argus and the Sioux
Falls Business Journal.
Yes, we are expanding into
the day-time as student
demand is evidenced. We
believe this is central to our
mission of meeting the
needs of Sioux Falls.

Not all see it that way,
however. Funding for UC - There is
constant dialogue about
whether the State should
provide funding for places
like UC (plus Pierre and
Rapid City). Currently,
wereceive no state
funding and are
completely dependent on
tuition revenues. I know
my opinion on this - what

There is a lot going on,
but that is because we
are constantly working
and innovating to meet
the growing educational
demands of Sioux Falls.
