ACT Exam
Considering taking the ACT?
While University Center is not an ACT Test site, we are providing the following information to students who need to take or are considering taking the ACT Test.
Who takes the ACT?
A valid, ACT score is required for all students aged 21 or younger before the start of their first semester. The results are used to determine your skill level for placement in Math and English courses (see SD BOR Guidelines). Composite scores are often used to determine admission acceptance. Please contact the Admissions Department for additional questions about the ACT or admissions process.
Residual ACT Exam vs. the National ACT Exam
An on-campus or "residual" ACT test option is available to students who were unable to test on a National ACT exam test date. ACT Residual Testing is strictly limited only to students who are seeking admission or have officially applied to one of the SDBOR institutions.
Scores from Residual Testing are reported only to the institution of choice for admission, course placement and advising purposes. This exam can be taken at any time at the main campus location. The National ACT Exam scores are also used for South Dakota admission purposes; however, the test is limited to only a few times a year and registration must be done in advance. The ACT Test Center Sites and Testing Dates provides more information about the National ACT Exam.
