COMPASS Placement Test
Find Your Way With COMPASS
To ensure that students are proficient in the skills necessary to successfully complete general education coursework, student competencies in reading, writing and math are evaluated. All incoming, degree-seeking students or students wishing to enroll in Math or English courses must provide valid Enhanced ACT scores or complete computerized placement tests (COMPASS). To be valid, the student must have taken the Enhanced ACT examination within five years of the date of initial enrollment.
For all students without valid ACT scores, the COMPASS (computerized placement tests) will be used to determine placement in English and Math courses. The COMPASS tests (math, reading, and writing) are not timed and can be taken separately; however, if you are planning on taking all three tests in one session, you should schedule the COMPASS test earlier than 9 p.m. (Mon-Thurs), 4 p.m. (Fri) and 3 p.m. (Sat) to allow yourself enough time.
COMPASS Placement Test Hours

Calculators are allowed during the COMPASS Placement Test (See Calculator Guidelines).
Sample COMPASS Test Questions
Students wishing to study prior to the exam can find sample questions for the test at ACT-COMPASS.
Receiving Results
Results of the COMPASS exam are available immediately after the student completes the test(s). Students receive a placement report with their scores as well as specific course requirements based on the scores.
Cost of the COMPASS Test
If a student is challenging a valid ACT score or previous valid COMPASS score, he/she can take the COMPASS test (just ONCE) in an attempt to earn a higher placement score with math, reading or English. In this event, the cost is $17.05 as it is considered a challenge to a previous valid score. The COMPASS test is free if a student does not have a valid score (ACT/COMPASS) or has never taken a placement test before.
