The purpose of the Doctor in Nursing Practice program is to prepare Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) to transform clinical practice as expert clinicians and leaders with a special focus on rural and underserved populations. In addition to delivering evidence-based direct patient care at an advanced practice level to individuals across the lifespan in primary care settings, graduates of the DNP program will learn skills needed to produce and implement valuable evidence to guide practice and are prepared to work collaboratively with rural communities in an effort to reduce health disparities. Certificate: Health Care Coding prepares students with entry-level skills needed to code, classify, and index diagnoses and procedures for the purpose of reimbursement, standardization, retrieval and statistical analysis. Principles in ICD-9-CM coding, CPT coding, and third-party reimbursement is emphasized. The courses within the Health Care Coding Certificate program are also applicable to the A.S. in Health Information Technology and the B.S. in Health Information Administration and students may wish to progress into those programs. The Health Care Coding Certificate program is approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

B.S. Health Information Administration prepares students with the administrative knowledge and skills, as well as the technical skills, necessary for a health information/medical records professional in a variety of health care facilities and agencies. Graduates are qualified to serve as entry level health information administrators, who are responsible for the management of health information systems consistent with medical, administrative, ethical and legal requirements of the health care delivery system. HIM professionals work in a multitude of settings throughout the healthcare industry including hospitals, physician offices and clinics, long-term care facilities, insurance companies, government agencies and home care providers. The B.S. Health Information Administration program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).

A.S. Health Information Technology prepares students to serve as entry-level health information/medical records professionals in hospitals, clinics, and other health facilities and agencies. These graduates perform technical duties vital to the operation of a medical record department in any health care facility. This degree program has the added benefit of being the first step toward a 4-year degree in health information administration (B.S. in HIA). The A.S. B.S. Health Sciences is a dynamic major that is interdisciplinary in nature and provides flexible options that allow students to prepare for many kinds of careers related to health. The major provides the opportunity for students with a general but unfocused interest in the health professions to explore the many opportunities in the field and to develop the knowledge, values and interpersonal skills needed to be successful in today's health and human service settings. The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences will qualify students for entry into graduate programs in a specific health profession, entry-level employment in health care or health care related positions and educational mobility for individuals who wish to advance their education. Some of the additional components of the program are: Background Checks (DCI and FBI) paid for by the student, Immunizations Records (Influenza, etc.), CPR Certification (either already earned or in process), and significant time spent doing service learning related to the field of study. The HSC 305, HSC 350, and HSC 380 courses require a background check, be certified in CPR (Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer), and proof of immunizations (See Program Requirements) Also, the program has over five pathways to choose from!

B.S. Nursing (Standard) – the standard option leads to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in nursing. The program offers a combination of lecture and hands-on experiences that teach students to practice nursing with expertise, professionalism, and a passion for helping others. Pre-nursing students apply to the nursing major in September when all pre-requisites are completed or in progress. The Sioux Falls standard option nursing program begins each January and is completed in five consecutive semesters, which includes two summers.
