UC Sponsoring the 7th Annual 605 Summer Classic

Sioux Falls, SD (4/1/16) –  Carnaval Brazilian Grill and University Center present the 7th Annual 605 Summer Classic, headlined by rising St. Paul indie-rock band Hippo Campus and Minneapolis hip hop favorite, Brother Ali. Hippo Campus will appear outdoors at Cherapa Place the evening of Friday, June 24, 2016, while Brother Ali headlines Saturday, June 25, 2016.

 

Accompanying the event on Saturday from 3- 6 p.m. is the second annual all South Dakota beer tasting. The tasting comes with the Saturday ticket.

 

“We had a great first year of our beer tasting, and we’re excited that this year we’re having even more of South Dakota-only breweries,” said director of sales and marketing of 605 Magazine, John Snyder.

 

Local folk group The Union Grove Pickers will join the stage Friday, along with indie group Gordo Ji’Bang and songwriter Maddie Todd. Minneapolis experimental beat-boxer Heatbox will provide direct support.

 

Brother Ali is in good company Saturday with local hip-hop artist Nikko McFadden co-headlining. Hip hop’s Deploi from Los Angeles will be performing with Twin Cities artist Down Lo, and local reggae band Sol Fredo and Strawberry and the Jam will also be performing that evening.

 

“We’re very excited to bring Brother Ali back, especially since lightning dangers cut his set short the last time he performed in 2013,” said Snyder. “He was amazing then, and we are looking forward to seeing his performance this year.”

 

The all ages event will have a family-friendly art tent by JAM Art & Supplies, bean bag toss, appearances by Sioux Falls Roller Dollz, food trucks, and more!

 

This year’s 605 Summer Classic is also sponsored by Sanford Health Plan, Lloyd Companies, South Dakota Public Broadcasting, Howalt-McDowell Insurance, Voyage Federal Credit Union, Billion Toyota Scion of Sioux Falls, and Fernson Brewing Company. An after party will be held at Wiley’s Tavern both nights.
