Helping Students Help Themselves
Your success as a student is important to everyone at University Center. At this time, tutoring is available for Math and English (if you are in a class that requires essays etc., be sure to utilize the English tutors, they can help you even if you are not in an "ENGL" course. If there is a subject we don't have a tutor for, you may want to utilize Varsity Tutors, BrightStorm, or Chegg Tutoring. Additionally, if you want resources that allow you to learn at your own pace, visit Academic Resources.
Planning to participate?
Before arriving at tutoring, it helps if you complete, or attempt to complete, all reading and assigned homework. If it’s too difficult, try anyway. This will allow you to show your tutor what you are struggling with specifically. Attempting to complete the assigned work beforehand will also save time during your session.
Arrive prepared
Below is a quick checklist that will help you remember what to bring to your tutoring session.
- Bring all necessary materials (pencils, paper, calculator, etc.).
- Bring textbooks, tests and notes from the class.
- Bring the homework you’ve been attempting to complete.
- Prepare and bring any specific questions you may have about the material.
- Bring an open and positive attitude to make the most of the session.
Performance
The tutor’s role is not to do the work for you, but to coach you to do it yourself. Be active in the tutoring session by listening intently, asking questions and working through the problems.
