The Bachelor of General Studies degree is intended to accommodate students with a variety of career goals.  It is an important option for students who have accumulated significant college credit and who want to complete a baccalaureate degree. But, it is also a viable choice for students who are interested in building their own degree program, to coincide with their career plans and interests. Students are required to complete general education requirements plus 45 credits in three areas of emphasis (15 credits in each area) selected by the student: allied health, business, education, fine arts, humanities, social sciences, wellness, technology and other STEM disciplines (science, engineering, math). Specific coursework in the three areas of emphasis is selected by the student; additional credits for graduation can be selected from any discipline.

B.B.A. Business Technology blends a solid computer orientation with traditional business, accounting, marketing, management and finance courses.  Computer related activities are integrated into coursework.

B.S. Cyber Operations provides graduates with an understanding of Internet-based electronic commerce, computer security, database design, computer programming, current client-side and server-side technologies, value-added networks, intranets, communications protocols, and privacy.

A.A. General Studies provides students with a strong general education background as well as knowledge to help them understand current and emerging computer-based technologies and to develop basic skills in information processing. This program also serves as an entry program for students who desire to seek admission to a baccalaureate or professional program in any South Dakota public university.

B.S. Health Information Administration prepares students with the administrative knowledge and skills, as well as the technical skills, necessary for a health information/medical records professional in a variety of health care facilities and agencies. Graduates are qualified to serve as entry level health information administrators, who are responsible for the management of health information systems consistent with medical, administrative, ethical and legal requirements of the health care delivery system. HIM professionals work in a multitude of settings throughout the healthcare industry including hospitals, physician offices and clinics, long-term care facilities, insurance companies, government agencies and home care providers. The B.S. Health Information Administration program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).

B.S. Information Systems provides a strong background in computing and business. Graduates have an understanding of operating systems, data base applications programming, and on-line applications. Students in this program can choose from the following specializations: Business Analysis, Project Management, or Software Development.

M.S. Information Assurance (MSIA) – Primarily Online Delivery – prepares professionals who can develop and implement security strategies to improve the security posture of organizations and can provide technical leadership for the organization's efforts to adopt new technologies, implement security strategies, and protect organizational assets against attack. Students in this program can choose from the following specializations: Banking and Financial Security, Wireless and Networking Security, or Internet and E-Commerce.

With the B.S. Network and Security Administration, as business networks become more and more complex, the ability to build and defend these networks becomes increasingly important. This degree not only prepares you for the designing and administering of various network systems, but also equips you with the ability to perform tasks in computer forensics, web software security, and network security.

A.S. Respiratory Care focuses on the assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, education, and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system as well as on the prevention of the development of these deficiencies. Career opportunities exist in a wide variety of health care facilities or in scientific environments. This degree program has the added benefit of being the first step toward a 4-year degree in respiratory care (B.S. in RC).

Certificate: Banking and Financial Services – Executive is a certificate targeted toward financial services employees that are accomplished in their field and have senior level potential. Courses include Asset and Liability Management, Safety and Soundness and Lending and Credit Risk Management.

The growth of world trade and of strategic alliances between international enterprises has increased the demand for managers trained specifically in the complexities of international commerce.  Students who major in International Business acquire the basic knowledge to operate successfully in this rapidly changing environment.  The multi-disciplinary curriculum emphasizes foreign language and culture to impart a broad understanding of the world of international business.  Graduates will have a firm understanding of the international economy and the global marketplace.

B.S. Consumer Affairs prepares graduates for work in business, financial planning, government, retail, public service and nonprofit organizations. Coursework in this major includes courses to help students develop abilities in management, planning, organizing, problem solving and communication.

A.A. General Studies program advances participants’ general knowledge beyond high school and meets general education requirements for a baccalaureate degree in any South Dakota public university.

M.S. Nursing prepares nurses for leadership roles through advanced study in clinical areas and specialization in selected areas.

B.S. Nursing (Standard) – the standard option leads to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in nursing.  The program offers a combination of lecture and hands-on experiences that teach students to practice nursing with expertise, professionalism, and a passion for helping others.  Pre-nursing students apply to the nursing major in September when all pre-requisites are completed or in progress.  The Sioux Falls standard option nursing program begins each January and is completed in five consecutive semesters, which includes two summers.

 

B.S. Psychology provides students with a foundation education for careers in mental health, social service settings, behavioral health care, and youth correction facilities. Graduates may also go on to pursue graduate studies in psychology or other fields.

Bachelor of Business Administration – Administration prepares students to become capable business managers that can detect and even anticipate changes in the business environment, understand the changes they see, and develop effective strategies to cope with these changes.

Bachelor of Business Administration – Finance prepares students for a dynamic, exciting career in the world of business. Finance majors may choose from a variety of career paths including corporate finance, investments, financial planning, portfolio management, banking, mergers and acquisitions, insurance, real estate, security analysis, and international finance.

B.S./B.A. Criminal Justice is an interdisciplinary study of crime and justice in our society and emphasizes the key components of police, courts, corrections, and juvenile justice in the criminal justice processes of our local, state, and federal governments. Beyond the basic required courses, students can pursue advanced courses in many areas, including the historical, international, social science, and legal facets of criminal justice studies.

 

B.S. Health Sciences is a dynamic major that is interdisciplinary in nature and provides flexible options that allow students to prepare for many kinds of careers related to health. The major provides the opportunity for students with a general but unfocused interest in the health professions to explore the many opportunities in the field and to develop the knowledge, values and interpersonal skills needed to be successful in today's health and human service settings. The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences will qualify students for entry into graduate programs in a specific health profession, entry-level employment in health care or health care related positions and educational mobility for individuals who wish to advance their education.

 

Master of Science in Administration – Alcohol and Drug Studies Specialization is a cross-disciplinary program that provides the primary tools and organizational skills necessary to more effectively perform administrative roles. The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Studies specialization provides theoretical knowledge regarding the nature, etiology, prevention, and treatment of alcohol and other drug issues and provides a multidisciplinary approach for career opportunities.

Master of Science in Administration – Human Resources Specialization is a cross-disciplinary program that provides the primary tools and organizational skills necessary to more effectively perform administrative roles. The Human Resources option provides education in supervision of personnel, leadership, and human resource management.

Master of Science in Administration – Long-Term Care Administration Specialization is a cross-disciplinary program provides the primary tools and organizational skills necessary to more effectively perform administrative roles. The Long-Term Care Administration Specialization helps build a career that offers security, status, high income, and most importantly, the satisfaction of helping others.

Master of Business Administration (MBA) – Hybrid Delivery – The purpose of the Hybrid MBA program is to develop current and future leaders for business, industry and government, and to encourage those students who have an interest in teaching at the college level and an aptitude for an academic career to continue their work at the doctoral level. The emphases in this program are deci­sion making, problem solving, understanding the role of business in society, and developing leadership ability and social responsibility to progress to positions of executive responsibility.
